On July 2, 2009, when U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood, Senate Majority Leader Reid, and California Governor Schwarzenegger announced their decision to extend the designation of the California High Speed Rail network to include the corridor from Palmdale to Victorville to Las Vegas – and their support for it as a steel wheel, high speed rail line to be implemented by DesertXpress - this map was used to demonstrate how the systems would ultimately be connected.. The short 49-mile connection from Victorville to Palmdale will provide a link to all of the 23 million people served by Southern California’s Metrolink and Amtrak network and ultimately, to most of California’s 36 million people who will be served by the CA high speed rail system.
